DMZ starts in November. Order code for #1 is: SEP050304

Here is a PDF preview. Good christ, someone fucked up the colors here. These are most definitely NOT the final colors. But here's the first 7 pages of the book to read:

that is looking pretty shit hot.

its got a nice pace to it.

the colours look good as it is so if you say they are gonna be better then it's gonna look great.

Impressive! I'm really looking forward to this even more now.

I dunno, I kinda like the desaturated look?

Either way, looks REALLY fucking nice!!!!!!!!!! Like.... REALLY.
boorman From: [info]boorman Date: August 24th, 2005 12:56 pm (UTC) (Link)
yeah i like the desaturated colours too actualy, gives it a hazy, dusty look.

i also love the pacing, you wasted no time introducing the whole deal and it worked brilliantly. the artist is great too!

are you still doing some of the seqs yourself?
brianwood From: [info]brianwood Date: August 24th, 2005 01:48 pm (UTC) (Link)
yeah, 2-3 pages per issue. you can see them on my Flickr page.

im curious now, did you tell riccardo how to handle the choppers at all, or is that just a fluke/brilliant choice on someones part?
brianwood From: [info]brianwood Date: August 24th, 2005 02:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
what about the helicopters, specifically?

boorman From: [info]boorman Date: August 24th, 2005 02:21 pm (UTC) (Link)
the fact that youve both handled them as these big sillouettes with windows and type being big white areas mostly.
brianwood From: [info]brianwood Date: August 24th, 2005 02:24 pm (UTC) (Link)
oh, i dunno. we didn't really talk about it, but i have this huge photo reference archive on a private server for both of us to use, so maybe we saw the same pics.

but originally I had them as generic military Blackhawks, and he added the NYPD, which i thought was interesting, so we kept it.

you (or whoever) picked a hell of an artist to work on it then, i actually wasnt sure at first if these were riccccardos, or the pages you were doing each issue and that youd just gone for a slightly different style.
a_perfectcircle From: [info]a_perfectcircle Date: August 24th, 2005 12:00 pm (UTC) (Link)
yeah i saw that as i was working backwards through my friends page.

its alot more vibrant and warmer than the dc preview.

are you pleased with how its looking?
hawkward From: [info]hawkward Date: August 24th, 2005 01:26 pm (UTC) (Link)
Ooh, I see what you mean about the colors. I didn't mind the blues but the yellows make it urban-warzone-creepy.

Looks great, I'm looking forward to it.
brianwood From: [info]brianwood Date: August 24th, 2005 01:50 pm (UTC) (Link)
its not so much the blues at the really garish greens and reds. i think the PDF conversion process really punched it up.
hawkward From: [info]hawkward Date: August 24th, 2005 02:00 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, the display (preview) images in PDF form are incredibly saturated. But the final output depends on the profiles set within Photoshop or Quark or whatever.

um, wow. reminds me of the depictions of beruit during the israeli invasion of lebanon in the mid-80's.

i am so excited for this.

Consider it preordered. I just have to decide whether to do it through Khepri (who's given me awesome service) or through my local shop, which isn't quite so easy to get nonsuperhero/nonmegahyped books from.

Who's the colorist? It kind of vaguely reminds me of Trish Mulvihill's 100 Bullets work.

Between this, Loveless, and All Star Superman, I know that I'm going to enjoy Q4 2005.
brianwood From: [info]brianwood Date: August 24th, 2005 01:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
Jeremy Cox is the colorist.

I think Khepri is going to be offering a subscription sevice, if your local shop is really that bad.

khepricom From: [info]khepricom Date: August 24th, 2005 05:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
In addition to our usual Pre-Clicky service, Khepri.com will offer 6-issue and 12-issue subscriptions to DMZ and/or LOCAL. Full details will be live Thu 01 Sep.
